Fair Employment
Your employees are entitled to work in an environment where their rights and specific needs are addressed, free from discrimination and exploitation. A happy workforce leads to a successful business and as such, your employee's welfare should be top of the agenda for any responsible business.
LOCAL EMPLOYMENT
Where possible, your business should always look to employ locally. Employing local staff works to improve relationships between your business and local communities and also contributes to the local economy.
It is important that local employees span all levels of the employee hierarchy from less skilled positions to decision making, managerial roles. Equally, all employees should be given the opportunity for training and development that will provide them with a chance for career progression within the business.
EMPLOYEE EQUALITY
In many cultures, there is still a distinct social barrier when it comes to achieving equality in the workplace for women and minorities. There are certain areas where it is not feasible for women to work, or where they would want to work, but wherever possible, women and minorities should be given equal opportunities in terms of positions they can apply for and also be given the same opportunities for career progression.
It is essential all staff members have similar style contracts, all employees in similarly skilled roles receive equal pay and that all benefits and training is the same across all levels of staff.
EXPLOITATION
It goes without saying that child labour and sexual exploitation is unacceptable in a business or indeed in any service or product used by your business. Any evidence of a business taking part in either will be excluded from the Responsible Tourism Reporting Initiative.
Under certain circumstances, it is accepted that it may be preferable for a business to employ a child. Exemptions will only be granted where your business presents a strong case for the legitimate employment of a child.
